2010 was the year of the smartphones. We saw the release of many interesting devices from all major manufactures and the every major Internet service provider racing to deploy services for these devices to consume. It was also a year when network operators started realizing that they are losing their tight grip over what devices in their network were running. It was also a year when the networks struggled to keep up with the high demand for data services.
What is C2DM
C2DM stands for Cloud to Device Messaging. It is a service provided by Google to allow Android developers to send data from third party servers to Android devices. The intention here is not to use it as a mechanism to share large amounts of data, but to share the occurrence of server events and some meta data to the Android device.
